Day 1: Arrival and Golden Temple Experience
Arrive in Amritsar and check into your hotel. Begin your trip with a visit to the iconic Golden Temple (Sri Harmandir Sahib), the most sacred site for Sikhs. Spend time exploring the serene surroundings, witness the spiritual atmosphere, and take part in the langar (community meal). Afterward, visit Jallianwala Bagh, located close by, to see the historic site of the 1919 massacre. You can also explore Heritage Street, a vibrant, clean lane lined with handicraft shops and street food vendors. In the evening, enjoy dinner at a famous local dhaba such as Kesar Da Dhaba or Bharawan Da Dhaba.
Day 2: History and Wagah Border Ceremony
Start your day with a visit to the Partition Museum inside the Town Hall, where you’ll find stories, photographs, and personal belongings from the time of India's Partition. Then head to Durgiana Mandir, a peaceful Hindu temple with golden domes and a large sacred pond. For lunch, try Amritsari kulcha with chole and lassi at a local favorite like Kulcha Land or Ahuja Milk Bhandar. In the afternoon, drive to the Wagah Border (about 30 km from the city). Arrive early to get good seating for the Beating Retreat Ceremony, a lively patriotic display between Indian and Pakistani soldiers. After the ceremony, return to the city and relax at your hotel or explore local food joints.
Day 3: Fort, Culture, and Local Food
After breakfast, visit Gobindgarh Fort, a historic site that now hosts cultural performances, traditional food stalls, and museums. You can enjoy a 7D show about Maharaja Ranjit Singh and shop at the on-site bazaar. Then, head to Ram Bagh Garden and the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Museum to see weapons, coins, and paintings from Sikh history. Spend the afternoon shopping at Hall Bazaar or Katra Jaimal Singh for phulkari embroidery, Amritsari juttis, and local spices. In the evening, you can take a food walk through old Amritsar, trying popular street food like aloo tikki, chaat, kulfa, and jalebi.
Day 4: Final Exploration and Departure
On your last day, visit Mata Lal Devi Temple, known for its colorful interiors and maze-like layout. If you have more time before departure, revisit the Golden Temple for a peaceful farewell or relax at a nearby café. After checking out from your hotel, head to the railway station or airport with beautiful memories of Amritsar’s spiritual charm and cultural richness.
